COVID-19 Lockdown, Day 53
Today is so far the best of the week. First, my congregation is preparing for a drive-in worship service this Sunday. Halleluyah! We can finally return to church, even if it is outside. I am even going to sing my hymn about being brave and having hope in the Lord even during the pandemic. If uses the tune of the Dutch National Anthem. I'll post the lyrics below.
Second, I spoke to one of the organizers of the GoFundMe campaign for my alma mater. As it turns out, they did not know anything about my campaign. In fact, one of them was once burned by the "leadership" committee too. Again, some things never change. She agreed with me that the way I was treated was not only wrong, but un-Christian. They have invited me to join their campaign and other plans they have (Top secret, friends!), and I have accepted.
I just want to reflect a little more on how I was treated. It is like certain people were like a mad dog that was starving to death. I hold out a biscuit for them, and they bite my hand off and kick away the biscuit. Such behavior is deathly humorous to Christophobes who need more reasons to denigrate Christianity. So I did not go to them first to pitch my GoFundMe idea. So what?! I was raising funds for them, representing myself. People who know me gave eagerly because they know I am going to give the money straight to the school, and I did!
But the sad thing is, it is not surprising that one of the people who tried to stop my fundraiser (wait for it) was a pastor. While most pastors I have know have been more or less decent, I have found that some of the smoothest, most charismatic pastors are often the most corrupt, arrogant, and/or insensitive. If I were a milquetoast Christian, such "pastors" would have turned me into an atheist or agnostic by now. As I have said before, I prefer a bear over a viper any day. A bear is clumsy and loud. You know when it is coming, and you will have enough time to hide or get out of dodge. A snake, on the other hand, is smooth and almost seductive. If a snake wants to eat you, it will sneak behind you and even slither and wrap itself around you like that woman's pet boa constrictor. By the time you realize you are the main course on the menu, it's too late.
But enough about snakes and bears. Deep down inside, those who disrespected me when I was trying to help know they are wrong, and a storm cloud will follow them until they apologize.
Here are the lyrics to my hymn; I hope you like it.

O Savior of the Nations
We put our trust in You
Through all the generations
You are a Healer true
You have cleansed every leper
And You made the blind man see
When Israel was struck down by vipers
You hearkened their plea.
O Great Physician, do not tarry
To heal our suffering
And free us from distress and worry;
To You, O Lord, we cling!
And You vowed to ne'er forsake us
In the time of doubt and need
No matter what may try to o'ertake us
We will follow your lead.
We'll fear no virus or pandemic
You are the God of all
Though healthy, ill, or on the uptick
Your will will never fall
Whatever you will for us
Then your holy will be done
To embrace or restore us
Till our journey is done.
--Signing off.
