COVID-19, Day 83
Today was a peaceful day for me. I went to my Sunday job, bought groceries, and did some barbecuing. I also made an important decision today. After much prayer and many knots in my stomach, I finally made a decision to give something else. While I cannot say what I am giving up, I finally feel relaxed and at peace with my decision. Giving up something important to me is never easy, but I try hard to be a gentleman, and a gentleman always knows when to leave.
So, that is all for the peaceful news. Now let us return to the violence because that is just want happened in Atlanta today. Rayshard Brooks was drinking and driving, and he decided to sleep it off in a Wendy's drive-thru. The police were called, and they made him take a sobriety test. When he failed, they tried to arrest him, but he starting fighting them. Somehow, he managed to take a taser away from the officer and started running. He then turned and pointed the taser at the officer, who then fired three times, killing Brooks. The rabid wolves of the city responded by burning down the Wendy's.
First, Brooks is no George Floyd. Brooks clearly put up a fight and, as he aimed the taser at the officer, the officer. Yes, the taser probably would not have killed him. Still, once an officer is incapacitated, Brooks could have grabbed his gun. There was no knee on his neck. Just a drunk man who did not want to go to jail.
Second, I detest drunk drivers. My uncle was hit by a drunken driver. Actually, he was hit twice. Once on impact, and again once he was on the ground. It took my uncle a year to die, going back and forward from the hospital to the nursing home. The driver's punishment? Probation. After all the suffering my family went through! It's a shame the officer did had to shoot him, and I cannot help but wonder if there were less lethal ways they could have taken Brooks down.
As for those wild animals, why burn down the restaurant? They did nothing wrong. By burning down a restaurant, you are taking away places where people can eat. You are taking away jobs and fair, competitive prices. You are making people resent us more. And the police chief will only resign! Please. Give me a break.
Tomorrow, our congregation resumes worship services inside. We will see how it turns out.
--Signing off.
