COVID-19 Lockdown, Day 54

Another day, another protest to reopen the state. While the Governor plans to move Illinois to Phase 3, the Recovery Phase, many lawmakers in various towns throughout the state are becoming restless because of the economic disaster the lockdown is causing them. One mayor downstate even threatened to defy the order. I am at the middle of the argument as both sides have valid points. As long as both sides are being reasonable.

The definition of reasonable is simple: the opposite of Gavin Newsom, This shameful excuse for a governor has ordered the state's lockdown to be extended to August. Even our local premier has enough sense to take things a few weeks at a time. Furthermore, he has authorized COVID-19 relief funding to be extended to those in the country illegally. Let's remove the morality and ethics of illegal immigration for a moment. Throughout the country, there are people still waiting for their stimulus checks. For some, those checks barely help their families because they have just been laid off. There are those who always fall through the cracks because they are too rich for government assistance yet not rich enough to pay such high prices for basic needs. Yet again, these people are being ignored because they are not valuable enough to be used as pawns for political games. I would make exceptions for those who are in legal limbo because of discrimination, but in California, especially, the majority of the undocumented are in the country because they do not want to go through the ordeal of paperwork, fees, and waits that many of my friends have experienced.

Newsom has essentially flipped the bird to legal residents and hardworking citizens. People who pay income and property taxes, as complete obligatory civic duties. Think I am overreacting? Then ask yourself why taxes in California are so high, yet one can only afford public housing in the most dangerous places. Ask yourself why common people in California have little to show for their high taxes while the rich keep getting richer. Ask yourself how California can afford to provide so many services to the undocumented, including COVID-19 relief. It is all paid for, courtesy of California tax payers! However, people with much to lose are afraid to say anything considered politically incorrect, no matter how logistic and true it is. Sure, decisions are officially made in Sacremento, but those with the most influence are in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Silicon Valley, and Berkeley. Essentially, people who consider themselves cultural elites who feel they have the right to shape morality and values.

And now the representatives want to approve another stimulus money bill--for $3 trillion. I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Besides, by the time both sides agree on something, the pandemic may have already ended. I just keep hoping they will create a vaccine or fail-safe treatment soon.

--Signing off.
