COVID-19 Lockdown, Day 118
Another eventful week. First, America is seeing an increase in states turning into hotspots. Except for New York, these are states that did not take the pandemic seriously. So far, thankfully, this is not much of an issue in Illinois. We are still in Phase 4, which allows us to enjoy the summer provided we use social distancing (or, as The Wife calls it, "physical distancing"). In fact, we went to a restaurant for the first time in months yesterday!
Another beacon of hope: scientists found a COVID-19 vaccine this week, and it passed its first test! Sure, nothing is final, but a glimmer of hope is still hope. We are closer to the end of this pandemic now than we were months ago. Rejoice!
Now for some unpleasant news. The savage rioters are at it again. They have destroyed church statues, Confederate statues, and they are now going after Christopher Columbus statues--specifically, the one in Chicago's Grant Park. Personally, I despise Christopher Columbus, and I feel it is sheer ignorance to celebrate this man even after reading about the atrocities he committed. That being said, these rioters continue to go to far, and Democratic politicians let them have free reign. They cannot control the situation, yet they are insulted when Republicans and the President criticize them. I say, it is time for serious action.
When rioters are throwing fire cocktails and firecrackers at police officers trying to stop them from toppling another statue, it is time to take things up more than a notch. It is time to reclaim the country. It is time for military action. Forgive me, but it is true. People are setting fires, destroying property, and trespassing on other people's land, and it has long been enough! We have passed the point of tear gas and nightsticks. When rioters are intent on destroying property, I say, after one warning to disperse, take out the garbage! It is time to make an example that we are still a society of laws, and people who break the laws must suffer the consequences. If a rioter is a student, expel them or remove financial aid. If he or she is receiving welfare, remove it. If they are parents, take away custody of their children. If they are employees, fire them. If they own businesses, seize the assets. Do all of this AFTER they have spent time in jail for destruction of property and assault and battery of polices officers and private citizens. If a rioter is injured or killed whilst facing justice, think twice before pressing charges against the police this time.
We Americans are sometimes given too much freedom, and too many abuse that freedom, which limits the freedom of those who are trying to lead good lives. Well, enough is enough. It's time to bring sanity and peace back.
--Signing off.
