COVID-19 Lockdown, Day 345

 Friends, 

Though I debated whether or not it was worth it, I wrote Illinois Senators Durbin and Duckworth to explain why they should vote No for the Equality Act . The letter is posted below, and I strongly urge you to write to them also. Unless they are full slaves to lobbyists or wants to destroy this country like the tycoon Soros, they MUST listen to their constituents. You can edit this letter to suit your style, but I strongly urge you to write to them. If you don't want to write, call them. Their information is in the link to my last post. 

Silence is not an option. To do nothing is to take a stand against freedom for all Americans! After all, if Equality Act is allowed to become law, this will only be the first step towards a fascist regime, a communist regime, where everyone is too afraid to stand up for what is right and is only a shell of a human being with no heart or soul. It's time we all put our foots down. 


Dear Senator,

I am writing about the H.R..5 bill of the 116th Congress, otherwise known as The Equality Act. While the title seems noble enough, the contents of this bill will have consequences that are anything but noble. This bill will force hospitals, pharmacies, schools, and private businesses, as well as their employees and contractors to abandon their consciences and beliefs by forcing them to provide services that they cannot support for personal or religious reasons. Even worse, this bill does not provide any protection for churches and faith-based institutions like schools, bookstores, charities, and so forth. This bill would penalize such institutions, essentially, for going against their consciences and against God.

Senator, every time you and any other Senator are inaugurated, you swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States. By voting in favor of this bill, you are violating your oath. This bill violates the First Amendment, which prohibits the limiting of free speech by the government. Moreover, this bill would violate freedom of religion, which prohibits the passing of any law that would establish a religion or restrict religious expression. This also violates the Thirteenth Amendment, which outlaws forced labor. By threatening fines or leaving someone vulnerable to a lawsuit for refusing to bake a wedding cake or officiate a wedding that goes against religious teachings, by fining a Catholic hospital for not allowing abortions, fining a pharmacy for not providing the abortion pill, or fining a business for telling a biological male to use the men's restroom, you are violating the Thirteenth Amendment. This is not the America we are all brought up being taught to love. This is not the America that millions of immigrants have escaped persecution for. In fact, this act would result in a federally-sanctioned discrimination and persecution against people of faith, people of conscience, and people of free thought.

If you really want to be on the right side of history, as your Democratic colleagues often preach, help America stay the land of the free. Stand up for freedom and civil liberties. Vote NO on the Equality Act.

I am glad that more and more people are getting the vaccine. A senior client of mine had just gotten his second shot this week, and he will be fully immune by the middle of March. I have heard that my senior friends and my mother are starting to at least get appointments. On top of this, today's news is that FDA approved a third vaccine--from Johnson & Johnson. This vaccine is a one shot deal; yes, there are no booster shots. Before you celebrate, please keep in mind that this vaccine is only  up to   85% effective. I don't know how this was considered good enough (still better than Astra Zeneca), but I think they should only give this vaccine to young adults in good health. The other two, especially Pfizer, should be given to the older and/or frail populations.  It was announced that the COVID-19 death toll reached 500,000 this week. COVID-19 Lockdown, Day 146

  Another rough week. My paternal grandmother, Grandma Margie, has been diagnosed with, you guess it, COVID-19. She is non-symptomatic, and she is in isolation. Guess how I found out about it? From my brother on my father's side--in my Facebook newsfeed. Of course, I started to worry because no one called or texted me to tell me. I sent a message to him, my younger paternal brother, and my paternal sister. I asked them when they heard about Grandma. I also included my old man in the text, wanting to know what her condition was and why no one called me to tell me. As it was late at night, I did not get a response for either of them, but I managed to enhance my calm well enough to go to sleep. When I didn't get a return call in the morning, I called my old man again. (Sidebar, my apologies if the moniker for my father offends you; that's just how I refer to him.) COVID-19 Lockdown, Day 365

 A whole year; a whole year has passed since I started writing this blog. It has been three days since the one year anniversary of the pandemic. This pandemic caused suffering all around the world, but not as much as it has affected Americans. As of today, 29,920,435 have been diagnosed with COVID-19. That is almost 10% of the population. That means, of ten people with whom you will interact this day, one will have had it or are suffering from it now. Also, the latest death toll is 544,424. Hence, if you have not lost a relative or friend from COVID-19, you know someone who has suffered such loss.  Let us look back a year ago and compare it to last week.
